THE NEW YEAR BEGINS

THE NEW YEAR BEGINS

The college has reopened with a lot of activity setting the pace that is to be this year. For starters, as is the norm the College held the opening assembly this morning during which important information was conveyed key among these being the promotion of the Dean of Students Mrs Tabitha Mwaniki to the position of Chief Principal of Kenyenya Teachers’ Training College in Kisii. We send our warm congratulations and wish her well in her new position. Pastor Charles Mureithi , former Deputy Dean and Mrs Susan Obimbo, former Assistant Dean now become the Dean and Deputy Dean of students respectively.

The assembly was also informed about the procurement of more chairs for the Multi-Purpose Hall and new Chairs for the hostels. Every student is to have a chair for use in his or her room. This is expected to ensure that lecture chairs remain in the lecture rooms….no more wastage of time taken up by ferrying of chairs from room to room.

Prior to this, meetings to prepare for the term and the year have been convened; staff meetings with the teaching and non- teaching staff were held on Tuesday 7th of January, in which the latter set individual targets and with clear team spirit being observed. Needless to say, there is a complete turn -around in attitude in the span of a few short months. As a result,  Kagumo College now enjoys a highly-motivated workforce and with the results of this already being felt

To culture team work and team spirit and also the spirit of inclusivity, the Chief Principal and the Board of Management organized two important meetings for the teaching and non- teaching staff. The Heads of sections and their deputies enjoyed a day long forum at Bantu Africa where they discussed where the College is at and where we want to go in the various departments. A forum in which impressive presentations were made by the various participants all geared at Making the College a better place. This forum was held on Monday 6th January 2020.

Prior to this, on Friday the 3rd of January 2020, the Top Management, Senior masters & mistresses, HoDs and Deputy HoDs were engaged in a similar forum at Nokras Riverine Hotel Sagana; a forum that left participants feeling invigorated and ready to take the College to the next level. The idea was to identify gaps in the various departments and come out with clear strategies to seal them ultimately improving in customer focus and service delivery which should translate eventually into better academic performance at all levels. While closing the forum, the Chief Principal emphasized on the need for honesty in self -assessment as individuals and departments as that is the hallmark of positive change and also the importance of working as a team. The resolutions of the forum are to be put together in a document  termed  “The Nokras Declaration 2020” This document is expected to inform important decisions to be made in the course of the year. The teaching and non – teaching staff are all set for the new year; we pray that the students  will match this tempo too.

On a sad note, the students were informed formally about the passing on of a long serving accounts clerk, Mr Wachira. A minute’s silence was observed in his honour. A requiem mass  will be held in the College on Friday 10th January 2020 at 2:00 p.m. We pray that his Family and the entire College fraternity may be granted strength to cope with this loss. May his soul rest in peace.
