ENDING THE YEAR IN STYLE
The Kagumo Family has once more closed the year together in a warm ceremony that brings together the Members of the Board of Management and the teaching and non – teaching staff. This idea was mooted in 2017 and among other things is aimed at enhancing team spirit within the College. The highlight of the party is always the acknowledgement of those members of the Board and of staff who may have retired in the course of the year.
This year the following members were appreciated for their selfless service as BOM members: Mrs Mary Nderitu, Mr Gitonga Kamenya, Mr Dickson Kinyua, Ms Grace Mukuha, Ms Helen Wamiti, Mr Robert Ndiang’ui and Mr Wasidiwa Ongoro.
The members of teaching Staff were Esther Ndwiga, a long-serving Head of Department for Business Studies. She has always been one to speak out her mind and articulate pertinent issues in a focused way. Then there was Esther Gicheru who exited service as the Assistant Teaching Practice Director. Esther was a stickler for perfection and she executed her duties in the best way she could. She was one who valued punctuality. And then Faith Wanja who served as Head of department for Library Science for a very long time and also as Chairperson of Strategic plan from 2007 to 2017. We shall miss her humour…..College Comedian who on a light note, swore to make a career of it after retirement. Finally, Robert King’ori who took the bold step of exiting the service before his time.
The Non- Teaching Members of staff were Evalyne Muchoki who exited as Cateress having served the College in various capacities for a total of 36 years and Peter Ikinya who worked in various departments also finally retiring after 38 years while working in the catering department. We Wish all the 2019 retirees the very best in their new endeavours.
During the ceremony, the best worker of the year per department, identified through the Appraisal system which falls under the Performance Contract Competency Development Subcommittee, was awarded. There was also an award for those members who have shown exemplary service over the year with the Accounts department scooping the best department award.
During this year’s party, there was a special acknowledgement of the former Deputy Principal who had during her time served the College in various capacities and always with total dedication. We wish you well Mrs Irene Mwangi as you steer Butere Teachers’ College. Judging from your track record we have full confidence that you shall do a fine job.
Beautiful words of encouragement were given to the retirees in a well thought out sermon delivered by Mrs Anne Macharia and also through words spoken by the Chairman of the Board Mr. James Karega, who read a verse from the book of Ecclesiastes. They were words of wisdom that inspired not just the retirees but all present as well.
It was a beautiful party. We commend the chief Principal for coming up with this idea. It is a day that the College fraternity has come to look forward to at the end of every year. We appreciate the members of staff who worked selflessly behind the scenes to make the day a success. These are Mr Wasidiwa Ongoro, Mrs Anne Njora and Mrs Susan Obimbo and who worked closely with the Deputy Principal Mr Cyrus Ndirangu, the Finance Officer Ms Carole Githinji and the Procurement Officer Mrs Bilha Mugo.
We thank the Good Lord for seeing us through 2019 and pray for his guidance and providence in 2020.
